Purpose
State SNAP Employment and Training (E&T) programs are authorized by the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008, for the purpose of assisting program participants in gaining the skills, training, or work experience needed to move toward meaningful employment. Funding supports states' flexibility to design SNAP E&T programs that address the unique needs of participants, meet state and local skilled workforce needs, and maximize the impact of taxpayer resources by connecting SNAP participants to good jobs. States should design efficient and effective SNAP E&T programs by partnering with the workforce development system, regularly using data to improve programs, and focusing on strong outcomes.
